Enrolment

We’re delighted that you’re considering Sacred Heart Primary School for your child’s learning journey. Choosing a school is one of the most important decisions a family makes—and we’re here to support you every step of the way.

At Sacred Heart, we welcome enrolments from all families who are supportive of our Catholic values and inclusive culture. We are proud to educate students from a wide range of backgrounds, faiths, and life experiences.

Enrolment

Thank you for considering Sacred Heart Primary School Mildura for your child’s education. We are a welcoming, inclusive and vibrant Catholic school community that values every child and family. As part of the Diocese of Ballarat Catholic Education Limited (DOBCEL), we proudly welcome enrolments from all families who wish to experience our hospitality and values.

At Sacred Heart, we recognise parents and guardians as the first educators of their children. We look forward to partnering with you to nurture your child’s spiritual, academic, social and emotional growth.

We invite families to explore enrolment with us, and we welcome all enquiries, questions and school tours.

Enrolment Priority

In line with DOBCEL policy, enrolment priority is given to:

  1. Siblings of children already enrolled at Sacred Heart

  2. Catholic children from within our parish for whom Sacred Heart is the closest Catholic primary school

  3. Catholic children from outside our parish where pastoral reasons apply (with consultation between schools)

  4. Other children seeking a Catholic education, prioritising those for whom Sacred Heart is the closest Catholic primary school

Families outside these categories are still encouraged to apply. If Sacred Heart is not your closest Catholic school, we kindly ask you to begin the process with your nearest Catholic school and include a brief letter explaining why you are seeking enrolment at Sacred Heart. These applications are thoughtfully considered in collaboration with local principals.

Please note: Due to space and staffing limits, we typically offer two class groups per year level. This may affect the number of available enrolment places.

Enrolment in Other Year Levels

While many families join us in Foundation, we also warmly welcome students transferring into other year levels throughout the year.

Whether you’re relocating to Mildura, seeking a better school fit, or exploring Catholic education for the first time, we understand that changing schools is a big decision—and we're here to make the transition as smooth and supportive as possible.

We tailor each transition to suit the child’s age, background, and learning needs. This may include:

  • School tours and parent meetings prior to enrolment

  • Orientation visits to meet classmates and the new teacher

  • Access to school wellbeing staff and Learning Community Leaders

  • A peer buddy to support social connections and routines

  • Consultation with previous schools or support professionals (with family permission)

  • Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) where adjustments or extra support are needed

If your child is moving from another school, we ask families to share any reports, plans, or assessments that will help us understand your child’s learning profile and strengths.

Our goal is to ensure every child feels safe, connected, and valued from the moment they join the Sacred Heart community.

Planning for Additional Support

All enrolment offers are conditional on families sharing any additional learning or medical needs. This ensures we can confirm our capacity to meet your child’s needs with the appropriate support.

If a child is identified—by families, kindergartens, allied health professionals, or our transition team—as requiring additional support, we will begin developing an Individual Learning Plan (ILP). This collaborative planning may begin in late 2025 and will involve:

  • Meetings with parents and guardians

  • Sharing of any relevant reports or assessments (e.g. speech therapy, occupational therapy, paediatrics)

  • Input from kindergarten or childcare educators

  • Consultation with Catholic Education Ballarat support services where needed

  • A clear, proactive plan for supporting your child in their first year at school

We believe that early communication and planning build trust and help children feel understood, prepared, and confident in their new learning environment.

Whether your child needs adjustments to support communication, attention, routines, social development, or health care, our goal is to work together in partnership from the very beginning.
