Gospel Reflection
This Sunday, we celebrate the Most Holy Trinity—a mystery of faith that reminds us God is love, shared perfectly in the relationship between Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Just as the Trinity is a communion of love, we are called to reflect that love in our families, classrooms, and community. May we be inspired to live with unity, compassion, and grace—recognising that we grow strongest when we walk together in love.

Thank you to everyone who supported these simple but powerful ways for our students to give back!

Mildura Eisteddfod
It’s an exciting week as many of our students from across different year levels take to the stage at the Mildura Eisteddfod, held at the Mildura Arts Centre. We’re so proud of the wonderful opportunities they have to share their talents and perform in front of a wider audience!

Mission Activity Second Hand Bookstore
As part of our ongoing Mission fundraising, next week we’ll be running a Second-Hand Bookstore in the Library from Monday to Thursday, open during recess. Students are welcome to browse and purchase books, with all proceeds supporting Fr. Michael McKinnon’s missionary work overseas. This will be a cash only event and books will range from $1-$5.
Sacrament of First Holy Communion
On Sunday next week, we hold in prayer our students who will be receiving their First Holy Communion—a sacred and joyful milestone in their faith journey. As they receive the Eucharist for the first time, we pray that this moment deepens their connection to Jesus and helps them feel His love and presence in their daily lives. We thank the families, teachers, and parish leaders who have supported these children in their preparation. May this celebration be filled with grace, joy, and a sense of belonging to our faith community.
Staffing News
At the end of Term 2 we will be farewelling Mrs Sam Lowe and thank her sincerely for the care and energy she has given our students. From the start of Term 3, Mrs Natalee Johnson will move to a 0.2 FTE role, and we have now advertised a full-time (or part-time) replacement position for Illawarra to ensure a smooth transition for our learners.
Sacred Heart Feast Day
We’re excited to celebrate our annual Sacred Heart Feast Day in Week Ten, on Friday 27th June. A detailed schedule will be shared next week, but here’s a sneak peek of what’s planned:
- Feast Day Mass at 9:30am
- Family Group activities between recess and lunch
- Feast Day lunch featuring hamburgers and ice cream
In the lead-up, we’re collecting money donations, non-perishable food, warm clean clothing, and blankets to support those in need. Items can be brought in on the day or dropped off in classrooms beforehand.
It’s always a special day of faith, fun, and community spirit—we’re looking forward to celebrating together!

Thanks to the families who have brought in and donated some children’s books. If you have not had a chance to look through your bookshelf it would be much appreciated if you could, and then send some books into the Mootwingee or Nangare classrooms early next week. Thanks in anticipation. Books will be for sale each recess and will be either $1, $2 or $5. Please remember to send your child with some cash so they can purchase a pre-loved book to make their own.
Learning & Teaching
End of Semester Reports
Teachers are currently working hard to prepare students’ end-of-semester reports. This is a significant task that involves assessing each student’s level of achievement. These reports will be available on SIMON Everywhere on Friday, June 27, with Parent Teacher Interviews scheduled for the following week.
We would also like to remind you about the changes to the Mathematics reporting for 2025. As part of the implementation of the updated Victorian Curriculum, all schools are required to adjust how Mathematics is reported in Semester 1, 2025. These changes are designed to provide clearer, more detailed information about your child’s progress and achievement in key areas of mathematics. More information about these updates can be found in the attached letter, which has also been emailed to all families this week.
Seesaw Digital Learning Portfolios
Have you recently checked your child’s digital learning portfolio on Seesaw? Take a moment to log in, review their work, and leave a comment to let your child know what you think! If you’re having any issues accessing your Seesaw parent account, please contact your child’s teacher for assistance.

Foundation News
What a great week we have had in Foundation. Students have continued to practise their reading and writing, and classroom teachers have been doing assessments on both. This week we have learnt the new sound /u/ and tricky words as, has, his. The sounds you will need to be continually practising at home are: m, s, t, a, p, i, n, f, r, o, c, h, d, e, g, l, k, u and the tricky words: I, the, my, a, is, his, has, as. Now that we are learning and having to remember more sounds, it is really important that the students can recognise and know each letter/sound automatically. Continue using the fluency charts at home to build on automaticity.
In Mathematics, we have continued our unit on counting and place value. The Foundation students have loved our warm-up counting games of ‘Sit Down Zero’ and ‘Buzz’. We have been working on teen numbers with MAB blocks. Students have an understanding that a teen number is 10 (or one ten) and how many more (ones). We have begun our new unit on ‘External Features of Living Things’ for Biology. Students have drawn and labelled both an animal and a plant.

We would like to thank parents for filling in our Baby Reports and sending through photos. The students loved guessing which peer the photo belonged to.
Reminders:
- School starts at 8:45am each day. If you are at school after 8:45am you must sign your child in at the office.
- Your child’s library bag needs to be at school every day - kept in their school bag.
- Practise the sounds caterpillars and snakes and fluency chart each night.
- Read and record ‘Enhanced Comprehension’ and ‘Reader’ in the reading diary each night.
Year One News
The Year One students have had a wonderful week of learning. In Literacy, students have been tuning in to the difference between long and short vowel sounds and practising reading and writing words with the /er/ sound. We also enjoyed reading texts to apply our new learning in context. In addition, we explored how to read the ‘e’ and ‘r’ sounds at the end of two-syllable words and we introduced some new tricky words to build their reading fluency and confidence.
Calling for Recycled Drink Bottles!
We are collecting plastic drink bottles for an upcoming science project and would greatly appreciate any donations over the next week or two. These bottles will be used by students to create something exciting as part of their science learning.
If possible, please ensure the bottles are clean and label-free before sending them in. Thank you for your support!
Missions
Thank you so much to everyone who donated during our missions fundraisers.
Second Hand Book Sale: Books will be for sale each recess this week and will be either $1, $2 or $5. Please remember to send your child to school with some money so they can purchase a pre-loved book to make their own. The money raised will be going towards the Year Two’s Unit Mission Fundraiser.
We hope everyone has a fantastic weekend,
Katrina and Brieanna
Year Two News
Second Hand book sale: Year 2’s are coordinating this sale which will start next Week on Monday 16th June and will be accessible for all children in our school.
Spelling Homework: Thank you to those children who practiced their spelling words by writing the words on the sheet and returning it to their teacher in Week 7. We have decided that once completed, the children can keep their sheets at home for extra practice and to refer to. A new sheet of words that your child should know how to spell will come home at the start of Week 9. These are words that we have learnt and practiced in the classroom.
Science: for our upcoming Science experiments, all children will require a clear, empty plastic bottle with a lid. A 600-700ml sized bottle would be best. We would ask children to bring along a bottle next week in preparation.

Year Three News
Week 8 has been another busy but great week in Year Three. Thank you to all the families for your support in providing a second healthy snack for our additional brain break at 12.40pm each day.
Well done to Dourim on their wonderful assembly. Thank you to all the parents who provided food for afternoon tea.
Second Hand Book Sale: Books will be for sale each recess and will be either $1, $2 or $5. Please remember to send your child some money so they can purchase a pre-loved book to make their own. The money raised will be going towards the Year Two’s Unit Mission Fundraiser.
Please enjoy looking at some photos of their learning this week!

Year Four News
It has been another busy week and we are steadily making our way to the end of Term Two.
In History, we have been learning about early explorers and the effect their journeys had on our world. Through this learning, students have been writing some wonderful Single Paragraph Outlines that have demonstrated their understanding.
In SELwe have been learning about online consent or permission, and how to define
online boundaries. We completed a worksheet and hopefully it has found its way home so your child can share what they have learnt with you.
MISSIONS: Second Hand Book Sale: Books will be for sale each recess and will be either $1, $2 or $5. Please remember to send your child some money so they can purchase a pre-loved book to make their own. The money raised will be going towards the Year Two’s Unit Mission Fundraiser.
Have a great weekend,
Natalee & Cathryn
Year Five News
Thank you to everyone who donated and brought food to share during our missions fundraiser this week. The students enjoyed the opportunity to eat together and gather as a community.

Good luck to our students representing our school next week at the Eisteddfod and the Division stage of AFL 9’s, Hockey, and Netball. We are sure you will do your best!
This week in Literacy we have been learning about figurative language. Figurative language is when authors use words in creative or imaginative ways that go beyond their usual meanings. Writers use it to help readers create strong images, understand emotions, and connect with the story on a deeper level.
We have been reading My Place by Nadia Wheatley while learning about early Australian colonisation. Students experimented with figurative language by writing sentences about some of the characters.
Have a read of some of our wonderful student work:
- SIMILE - compares two things using the words “like” or “as”
Sarah stood as big as the big tree.
Sam was as busy as a bee but as kind as he can be.
The convicts were as sad as a rain cloud.
Freddie danced like he had ants in his pants.
The Owens family was as mean as a bull.
- HYPERBOLE - states extreme exaggeration to make a clear point
Freddie was so hungry he could eat a horse
He was so bored he could read a book.
- PERSONIFICATION- giving human-like qualities to something that is not human
The trees were dancing in the storm.
The tree stretched its arms to the sky, like it was trying to catch the clouds.
- ALLITERATION - repetition of beginning letters or sounds in a series of words
Sarah searched for seashells by the shore of Sydney while she was shivering cold.
Alice ate apricots after flying to Asia in an airplane in the afternoon.
Sam sat somewhere with the sun shining like stars.

Second Hand Book Sale:
In Week 9, myself and the Year 2 classes are running a Second Hand Book Stall as part of our school’s Mission Fundraising efforts. We need A LOT MORE books for this to be a successful, exciting opportunity for students to purchase a book to take home. We would be most grateful if families could have a look through their books and consider donating any that they no longer read.
Book donations can be given to Mrs Carmichael (Mootwingee), Mrs Collins (Nangare/The Lab) or Mrs Pacher (Library).
Books that were ordered at the Book Fair have now all been distributed. Please let me know if you have not received your order.

School Hats
It is school policy that hats should be worn from September 1st until May 1st whenever the children are outside at recess or lunch. Outside these times the wearing of a school hat is based upon the forecast UV rating. Foundation children have a light blue hat so that they are easy to identify in the playground.
Shoes
Parents are asked to give special attention to the shoes children wear to school. The uniform regulations specify black leather shoes. There are many styles on the market that fit this description, however parents are urged to avoid shoes that feature coloured stripes, logos or any other coloured decoration. Unless specifically authorised, (e.g. on Physical Education days) sneakers are not to be worn.
Socks
Specific attention is also drawn to the colour of the socks to be worn as part of the general uniform: pale blue for girls, grey for boys. Sacred Heart sports socks or plain white sports socks (with no logos or markings) are to be worn as part of the Physical Education uniform.
School Uniform Purchase
The Uniform Shop is run independently to the school through Totally Workwear. The shop is located at 87 Lime Ave, Mildura (Ph. 03 5021 4697).
Second Hand Uniform Shop
The Parents and Friends (P&F) operate a Second Hand Uniform shop. Opening hours are usually during our School Assembly times. All items for sale are donated and all proceeds go directly to the P&F to support our school. An order form is placed on our website https://www.shmildura.catholic.edu.au/school-uniform .
School Bags
School bags with the school emblem printed on them are available for purchase from Totally Workwear but are not compulsory.
Library Bags
All students require a Sacred Heart Library Bag (ordered through Totally Workwear) which is used to protect books borrowed from school as well as newsletters and other correspondence.
Lost Property
Please label ALL UNIFORM ITEMS with your child’s name. Lost property can be retrieved from breezeway between the courtyard and Olive Grove and if left unclaimed, will be donated to the second hand uniform shop.
Hair, Jewellery, Nail Polish & Make-Up
Students should keep their hair neat and tidy. Long hair that may cover the eyes must be tied back in a ponytail, plait, or similar style—this applies to both boys and girls. Hair accessories should be in the school colors: pale blue or navy blue.
Jewellery is generally not part of the school uniform, with a few exceptions:
- Earrings: Only plain studs (no glitter or dangling styles), with one stud per earlobe. No other piercings are allowed.
- Religious Medals: May be worn on a chain or pin but must be safe for play.
Nail polish and make-up are not allowed as part of the school uniform.
Arriving and Leaving Safely
Kiss & Go
To help keep everyone safe during drop-off and pick-up please take note of the following rules at Kiss and Go and the School Crossing that should be followed both in the morning (8:10-8:45am) and afternoon (3pm-3:30pm):
- Stay in your vehicle unless you need to assist younger students with their seat belts.
- Aim to keep your car in the Kiss & Go area for a maximum of two minutes to allow others to use the space too.
- Access the Kiss & Go only from Olive Grove, not 12th Street.
- Please refrain from dropping off students outside of cars in Olive Grove.
- Avoid performing U-turns within the Kiss & Go area.
- For your safety, use the school crossing if you need to cross 12th Street.
Thanks for helping us keep our school safe for everyone!

Pick Up and Drop Off Points
In the mornings, the Olive Grove gate will remain closed, so students and visitors can only enter through the 12th Street or Tamarisk Grove gates. After school, only the Olive Grove gate near the Art House will be open and supervised by a staff member. This change aims to enhance student and traffic safety.
Please ensure you find a suitable and permissible parking spot for your car in order to use these locations.

Riding Scooters & Bikes
Certain students walk, ride bikes, or scooters to school and are requested to use either the 12th Street entrance or the Tamarisk Grove entrance at the rear of the oval. Riding into or through the school grounds is not permitted.
Collect Children from School Grounds
Feel free to come into school to pick up your child directly from their classroom. It's an excellent opportunity to meet other parents, have casual conversations with teachers, and ensure your child is organised at the end of the day. If you choose this option, please park appropriately and be outside the classroom by the 3.10 bell; otherwise, your child will be directed to the supervised Kiss and Go area. Students and young siblings should refrain from using the playground equipment.
School Crossings
Students walking home are advised to use the school crossings on Twelfth Street, Walnut Avenue and Eleventh Street to safely avoid heavily trafficked roads. All crossings are supervised by a School Crossing Supervisor, and it's crucial to follow their directions. We also encourage parents to model expected behaviours by using the School Crossings also.
Buses
Several of our students catch buses home from the St. Joseph’s bus stop on 11th Street. Each day a teacher gathers these children together and accompanies them to the bus stop to supervise until they are all safely on the bus.
Drop Off Times
Preferred 'Drop Off' Time: 8.25 - 8.45 am. For safety reasons, please refrain from dropping off students before 8.19 am, as there is no supervision provided. Our gates open at this time.
Pick Up Times
Recommended 'Pick Up' Time: 3.10 - 3.25 PM. While we understand occasional delays, if regular or extending beyond 3.30 PM, please consider enrolling your child/ren in After School Care.
Walking or Riding Home
If your children walk or ride home or to your workplace after school, please submit written permission authorising them to leave unaccompanied. They must exit through the main 12th Street gate or accompany the 11th Street bus group through Tamarisk Grove.
Alternative Pick Up Places
For safety, we strongly advise against arrangements where children wait unsupervised at public pick-up locations like Walnut Avenue or St Joseph’s College.
EATING AND DRINKING AT SCHOOL
Healthy Eating
To sustain learning and promote healthy eating we encourage students to bring to school predominantly healthy food choices.
Brainfood
Students have a brain food break during the morning to keep children’s brains fuelled for learning. We ask that families send an extra fresh fruit or vegetable snack for children to have during this time. When sending the snack, please pack it separately from your child’s lunch in a small, named container so it can be placed on their desk each morning.

Lunch Snack
The main meal of the school day; a sandwich or roll, a salad or a slice of quiche. A healthy ‘treat’ may also be appropriate here that is healthy and gives long-term energy. Lunch is eaten usually in the classroom from 11:25am-11:40am.

Recess Snack
We encourage parents to pack fresh fruit or vegetables in your child’s recess snack box. You may like to pack one or two other snack items for them at this time. This snack is eaten at 1:40pm.

Packing Food
The school has a bank of refrigerators for the storage of students’’ food. For the ease of packing and unloading the fridges, we ask that parents provide separate, small, well-labelled containers or zip-lock bags for their child’s recess snack and lunch. Insulated ‘puffy’ lunchboxes and ice-blocks are not required.

School Canteen
Our School Canteen operates on a Wednesday and Friday and provides a range of lunch options at low cost. The current menu and prices can be accessed through and ordered via the CDFpay. This app is powered by Flexischools and you will need to create an account. Please download the CDF Pay App and ensure you create an account (the previous CDFPay doesn't transfer over to the app).
