ISSUE 29: 12th September, 2025
Principal Message
Gospel Reflection
This Sunday’s Gospel reminds us of God’s incredible mercy and love, through the parables of the lost sheep, the lost coin, and the prodigal son. Each story shows us that no one is ever forgotten or beyond God’s care. Just as the shepherd searches tirelessly for one lost sheep, or the father welcomes home his son with open arms, God rejoices when we turn back to Him.
As parents, carers, and families, these parables invite us to practice the same kind of patient love in our homes. When mistakes are made, when things go wrong, or when we feel lost, forgiveness and welcome are what restore relationships and bring peace. It’s a powerful reminder that our homes and school are places where compassion, second chances, and belonging are always possible.

This Week at Sacred Heart
Dear Parents, Guardians, Staff & Students,
Thank you for your patience while our phones and servers have been out of action since Wednesday
As Term Three comes to a close, we’d like to thank our staff, students, and families for the energy, dedication, and teamwork that has made this term such a success. It has been a busy and rewarding term, filled with learning, achievements, and many memorable moments.
This week we enjoyed a fantastic RUOK Breakfast, and it was wonderful to see so many families gathered together. A huge thank you to the Knights of the Southern Cross for cooking up the bacon and eggs, and to the staff and parents who helped with setup and pack-up.
Our AFL Day was a highlight, with students showing their colours and plenty of team spirit on display! Special thanks to our Year 6 students and Mr Burford for organising and running the footy clinics at lunchtime—it was a brilliant effort.
We also extend our thanks to all parents and staff involved in this week’s PSG Meetings. With around 100 meetings held, your input and collaboration are greatly appreciated as we continue to work together to support the best outcomes for our students.
Congratulations to our Volleyball and Hot Shots Tennis teams who competed at the District level this week—both boys teams and the girls tennis have qualified for the Division Finals! What an outstanding achievement, and we wish them the very best in the next stage of competition.
As we head into the holidays, we wish all families a safe and restful break. Please note that our next newsletter will be sent on Friday 3rd October, before school resumes for Term 4 on Monday 7th October.
2026 Foundation Buddy Playtime
This Monday we’re excited to welcome our 2026 Foundation students for Buddy Playtime! Sessions will be held in the Library at 8:55am, 9:25am, 9:55am, and 10:25am. Children will enjoy playtime with their buddies, supported by one of our Foundation teachers. Parents are warmly invited to stay with their child or enjoy a tea or coffee in the staffroom during the session. We look forward to seeing you there!
Year 6 Melbourne Camp
We wish our Year Six students all the best for their Melbourne camp! They’ll depart at 6:30am on Monday, and return Thursday evening around 10pm. This camp offers a great chance to explore the city’s culture, visit museums, galleries, and historical sites, and build important social skills and independence. A huge thanks to Mrs. Pike and the Year 6 teachers for all her hard work in organising this special experience. Have fun, everyone! Students are encouraged to take Friday as a rest day with no new learning scheduled.
Year 3/4 Sunray Warriors Excursion
On Wednesday, our Year 3/4 students will visit the Mildura Sporting Precinct from 9:00am–12:30pm for the Sunray Warriors program. They’ll take part in hands-on activities exploring the environment, including habitats, fish, and water quality.
Team Tastic Day – This Friday!
We’re finishing Term 3 with a burst of colour and team spirit! Students are invited to dress in their house colours, add some coloured hairspray or face paint, and bring along a gold coin donation (or donate via CDF Pay). All funds go towards our Missions fundraising. The winning house will be announced at the Assembly—let’s see which team can raise the most!

Year One Amaroo will host our Assembly this Friday at the earlier time of 1:20pm. With so much to celebrate after four weeks without an Assembly, we’ll be recognising One Agency Awards, Students of the Week, Term 3 Principal Awards, four weeks of birthdays, and announcing the Team Tastic winner, along with our usual Assembly items. Following the Assembly, Amaroo parents are warmly invited to join an afternoon tea in their child’s classroom—a great chance to see student learning and connect with other parents.

We are delighted to announce our Learning Community Leaders for 2026–2027: Christine Sherry will lead the Foundation–Year 2 team and Sophie Price will lead the Years 3–6 team. We also share that Jo Campbell will be taking time off in 2026 with the aim of returning in 2027.
School Fees
Thank you to all families who have already paid their school fees. For those who opted for payment by term or year, a reminder that these accounts must be finalised by Thursday, 19th September, unless other arrangements have been made. Families paying by Monthly Direct Debit will have their final deduction in October.
If you are experiencing any difficulty with payment, please don’t hesitate to contact us so that we can make an arrangement together. We appreciate your support in helping us keep everything running smoothly for our students.
School Closure Days – Term 4
We’d like to make families aware of a cluster of School Closure Days in Term 4, falling close to the Melbourne Cup period. Please note the following dates when students will not be at school:
- Monday 27th October – Structured Literacy
- Friday 31st October – Religious Education (new date, not previously advertised)
- Monday 3rd November – Student Reporting
We hope this early notice helps with family planning.
School Concert & Dinner for Missions
Our 2025 School Concert, Indiana Joan: Raiders of the Lost Relics, will be filmed and premiered on the big screen on the oval on Thursday 9th October from 6pm-7pm. This earlier date avoids the end-of-year heat and helps with busy family schedules.
From 5–6pm, Enjoy Wine Catering will serve Chicken Chorizo Paella, Lamb Ragu with Penne, Italian Meatballs with Penne, and Vegetarian Paella. Meals are $10 (kids) and $15 (adults), with any profits supporting Mission Month. Pre-orders close Tuesday 7th October via CDFPay.
To close the year, we’ll celebrate with a Christmas Assembly, featuring Foundation students performing the Christmas story and carols.
CCTV Installation at Sacred Heart
We’d like to let families know that over the coming weeks, CCTV cameras will be installed across our school. These will help enhance safety and security for our students, staff, and school community.
The cameras are being placed thoughtfully around the grounds to support a safe environment while respecting the privacy of everyone in our school. We’ll keep you updated as the installation is completed.
Thank you for your support as we continue to make Sacred Heart a safe and welcoming place for all.
2025 School Numbers
As we begin planning for 2026, it's important for us to forecast student numbers to determine the number of classes, teachers, and classrooms required. We kindly ask parents to inform us if their children will be leaving Sacred Heart at the end of this year. Your assistance in this process is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Names on Jumpers
Please ensure all jumpers are clearly labelled with your child's name to prevent them from being lost. This helps save money and makes it easier to return misplaced items. Thank you for your cooperation!
School Crossing
It is extremely important that all students cross the road at the school crossings on 11th and 12th street before and after school. It is a very busy area, particularly after school hours. Please remind your child that they must always cross at the crossing, as it is for everyone’s safety.
Foundation 2026 Enrolments – Still Open
We still have places available for Foundation in 2026! If you know of any families thinking about joining Sacred Heart, please encourage them to get in touch and enrol soon. We’d be delighted to welcome them into our caring and vibrant school community.
God Bless!
Mr Mark Gibson

Primary School Nursing Program
This week your child brought home a ‘Visiting Primary School Nurse Program’ envelope. The Visiting PS Nurse Program provides a free service to all Prep students attending Primary School in Victoria. Our school nurse is Denise Pragt and she will be visiting in Term Four. Denise has a background in Midwifery and Child and Family Health and has 37 years of nursing experience. It is an excellent free service to take advantage of.
Denise provides:
- the opportunity for free hearing and vision screening and general development assessment
- information and advice about healthy behaviours
- a link for children and families to community-based health and well-being services.
- providing parenting resources
The questionnaire is to be completed online.

Year One News
What a wonderful and busy term of learning and fun! We have had so many wonderful moments to celebrate together, and we are so proud of the effort and enthusiasm our students have shown.
This week has been especially full of exciting events. The Dental Van visited early in the week, giving our students an opportunity to learn about healthy teeth and have their dental checks completed. On Thursday, we marked RUOK? Day with a special breakfast, and it was lovely to see so many families join us for this important occasion. We are very grateful for the support of our families and community in making these opportunities possible. That same day, students participated in the filming of our School Concert performance and did a fabulous job. We can’t wait to share it with you at the premiere screening early next term on Thursday, 9th October!
To finish our week, we had AFL Day, and it was a huge success. Students rotated through a variety of football activities led by our senior students. It was a fantastic chance for everyone to show their skills, work as a team and, most importantly, have fun.
As we head into the holidays, we encourage families to keep practising reading and tricky words together at home. A few minutes each day can make a big difference and will help set students up for another strong start next term.
Upcoming -
Friday 19th September- Amaroo Assembly and Team Tastic Day (Gold coin donation via CDF pay). Students wear their sporting house colour.
Early finish 2:10 on Friday, 19th September.

We look forward to another term of exciting learning and celebrations ahead in Term 4. Have a wonderful and safe holidays,

Year Two News
What a wonderful term it has been in Year Two! We’ve been busy learning about where Australia sits in the world, exploring our states, and discovering why we live in the “Land Down Under.” We even put on our town planner hats and designed our very own suburbs!

In Religion, we explored different faiths, read scripture, and deepened our understanding of Wisdom. In SEL, we continued our journey with The Resilience Project, while in Maths we tackled place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and graphing. Next week, we’ll be revising time and learning how to read both analogue and digital clocks.
Our writing has also grown stronger—we’ve been practising note-taking, joining sentences with conjunctions, and unscrambling tricky sentences. Don’t forget to check out Seesaw to see the amazing work the children have created this term!
The students have worked incredibly hard over the last eight weeks, and we know everyone is ready for a well-earned September holiday.
Just a little heads-up: early in Term 4 we’ll be starting a Science unit all about forces. Each child will need a shoebox, so if you happen to buy new shoes over the holidays, please keep the box and send it in during Week 1.
We wish you all a relaxing and happy break,
Mrs Collins & Mrs Garzon

School Hats
It is school policy that hats should be worn from September 1st until May 1st whenever the children are outside at recess or lunch. Outside these times the wearing of a school hat is based upon the forecast UV rating. Foundation children have a light blue hat so that they are easy to identify in the playground.
Shoes
Parents are asked to give special attention to the shoes children wear to school. The uniform regulations specify black leather shoes. There are many styles on the market that fit this description, however parents are urged to avoid shoes that feature coloured stripes, logos or any other coloured decoration. Unless specifically authorised, (e.g. on Physical Education days) sneakers are not to be worn.
Socks
Specific attention is also drawn to the colour of the socks to be worn as part of the general uniform: pale blue for girls, grey for boys. Sacred Heart sports socks or plain white sports socks (with no logos or markings) are to be worn as part of the Physical Education uniform.
School Uniform Purchase
The Uniform Shop is run independently to the school through Totally Workwear. The shop is located at 87 Lime Ave, Mildura (Ph. 03 5021 4697).
Second Hand Uniform Shop
The Parents and Friends (P&F) operate a Second Hand Uniform shop. Opening hours are usually during our School Assembly times. All items for sale are donated and all proceeds go directly to the P&F to support our school. An order form is placed on our website https://www.shmildura.catholic.edu.au/school-uniform .
School Bags
School bags with the school emblem printed on them are available for purchase from Totally Workwear but are not compulsory.
Library Bags
All students require a Sacred Heart Library Bag (ordered through Totally Workwear) which is used to protect books borrowed from school as well as newsletters and other correspondence.
Lost Property
Please label ALL UNIFORM ITEMS with your child’s name. Lost property can be retrieved from breezeway between the courtyard and Olive Grove and if left unclaimed, will be donated to the second hand uniform shop.
Hair, Jewellery, Nail Polish & Make-Up
Students should keep their hair neat and tidy. Long hair that may cover the eyes must be tied back in a ponytail, plait, or similar style—this applies to both boys and girls. Hair accessories should be in the school colors: pale blue or navy blue.
Jewellery is generally not part of the school uniform, with a few exceptions:
- Earrings: Only plain studs (no glitter or dangling styles), with one stud per earlobe. No other piercings are allowed.
- Religious Medals: May be worn on a chain or pin but must be safe for play.
Nail polish and make-up are not allowed as part of the school uniform.
Arriving and Leaving Safely
Kiss & Go
To help keep everyone safe during drop-off and pick-up please take note of the following rules at Kiss and Go and the School Crossing that should be followed both in the morning (8:10-8:45am) and afternoon (3pm-3:30pm):
- Stay in your vehicle unless you need to assist younger students with their seat belts.
- Aim to keep your car in the Kiss & Go area for a maximum of two minutes to allow others to use the space too.
- Access the Kiss & Go only from Olive Grove, not 12th Street.
- Please refrain from dropping off students outside of cars in Olive Grove.
- Avoid performing U-turns within the Kiss & Go area.
- For your safety, use the school crossing if you need to cross 12th Street.
Thanks for helping us keep our school safe for everyone!

Pick Up and Drop Off Points
In the mornings, the Olive Grove gate will remain closed, so students and visitors can only enter through the 12th Street or Tamarisk Grove gates. After school, only the Olive Grove gate near the Art House will be open and supervised by a staff member. This change aims to enhance student and traffic safety.
Please ensure you find a suitable and permissible parking spot for your car in order to use these locations.

Riding Scooters & Bikes
Certain students walk, ride bikes, or scooters to school and are requested to use either the 12th Street entrance or the Tamarisk Grove entrance at the rear of the oval. Riding into or through the school grounds is not permitted.
Collect Children from School Grounds
Feel free to come into school to pick up your child directly from their classroom. It's an excellent opportunity to meet other parents, have casual conversations with teachers, and ensure your child is organised at the end of the day. If you choose this option, please park appropriately and be outside the classroom by the 3.10 bell; otherwise, your child will be directed to the supervised Kiss and Go area. Students and young siblings should refrain from using the playground equipment.
School Crossings
Students walking home are advised to use the school crossings on Twelfth Street, Walnut Avenue and Eleventh Street to safely avoid heavily trafficked roads. All crossings are supervised by a School Crossing Supervisor, and it's crucial to follow their directions. We also encourage parents to model expected behaviours by using the School Crossings also.
Buses
Several of our students catch buses home from the St. Joseph’s bus stop on 11th Street. Each day a teacher gathers these children together and accompanies them to the bus stop to supervise until they are all safely on the bus.
Drop Off Times
Preferred 'Drop Off' Time: 8.25 - 8.45 am. For safety reasons, please refrain from dropping off students before 8.19 am, as there is no supervision provided. Our gates open at this time.
Pick Up Times
Recommended 'Pick Up' Time: 3.10 - 3.25 PM. While we understand occasional delays, if regular or extending beyond 3.30 PM, please consider enrolling your child/ren in After School Care.
Walking or Riding Home
If your children walk or ride home or to your workplace after school, please submit written permission authorising them to leave unaccompanied. They must exit through the main 12th Street gate or accompany the 11th Street bus group through Tamarisk Grove.
Alternative Pick Up Places
For safety, we strongly advise against arrangements where children wait unsupervised at public pick-up locations like Walnut Avenue or St Joseph’s College.
EATING AND DRINKING AT SCHOOL
Healthy Eating
To sustain learning and promote healthy eating we encourage students to bring to school predominantly healthy food choices.
Brainfood
Students have a brain food break during the morning to keep children’s brains fuelled for learning. We ask that families send an extra fresh fruit or vegetable snack for children to have during this time. When sending the snack, please pack it separately from your child’s lunch in a small, named container so it can be placed on their desk each morning.

Lunch Snack
The main meal of the school day; a sandwich or roll, a salad or a slice of quiche. A healthy ‘treat’ may also be appropriate here that is healthy and gives long-term energy. Lunch is eaten usually in the classroom from 11:25am-11:40am.

Recess Snack
We encourage parents to pack fresh fruit or vegetables in your child’s recess snack box. You may like to pack one or two other snack items for them at this time. This snack is eaten at 1:40pm.

Packing Food
The school has a bank of refrigerators for the storage of students’’ food. For the ease of packing and unloading the fridges, we ask that parents provide separate, small, well-labelled containers or zip-lock bags for their child’s recess snack and lunch. Insulated ‘puffy’ lunchboxes and ice-blocks are not required.

School Canteen
Our School Canteen operates on a Wednesday and Friday and provides a range of lunch options at low cost. The current menu and prices can be accessed through and ordered via the CDFpay. This app is powered by Flexischools and you will need to create an account. Please download the CDF Pay App and ensure you create an account (the previous CDFPay doesn't transfer over to the app).

For parents familiar with PAM, the new App works mostly the same as PAM and you can still access PAM through the web site: pam.shmildura.catholic.edu.au, however the app has additional functionality such as Push notifications and the ability to sign in without having to enter your username and password each time.
- Go to the App Store or Google Play Store and search Simon Everywhere
- Download and open the App and Allow Notifications
- Enter your name and phone number and press verify, you will receive a code via SMS
- Click on 'Add School'
- Select Sacred Heart Primary School, Mildura - Parent Access
- Enter your PAM username and password. If you do not know your credentials, please call the school.
Click on the Home icon.
Simon everywhere works best when notifications are turned on. You can check the notifications setting on your phone to be sure by going to the Settings – Notifications – Then find the Simon Everywhere App.
