Each school family of Sacred Heart is allocated a ‘House’ team on their enrolment.
These are used throughout the year during school sporting events as well as special event days.

Sacred Heart has two major sporting events that all children participate in, both representing their allocated House and for individual awards. The winning House for both events receives a trophy.
Early in Term 2 each child participates in the Sacred Heart Cross Country. Families are welcomed to come along and watch.
Each unit runs an age appropriate distance:
Senior Unit – 3km
Middle Unit – 2km
Junior Unit – 1km
Prep Children -750m
For Middle and Senior Unit children, the top 5 performers both girls and boys are given the opportunity to represent the school at the inter-school event against other local schools.
In Term 3 the children participate in the Sacred Heart Athletics Carnival. Each House is competing to win the “Gordon Casey’ Shield, named after a former PE teacher of many years at Sacred Heart, Mr Gordon Casey. Gordon takes great pleasure in presenting the shield to the captains of the winning house each year.
As well as competing and gaining points for their House, the children compete to be individual Age Champions. Throughout the day the children have the opportunity to participate in both tabloid events and track events. The events are run by staff members, parents and St Joseph’s College students.
Families are warmly welcomed to come down and watch and are even more welcomed to come and help out!
At Sacred Heart we maintain a very strong focus on physical activity and health, through team and individual sports, at the Year 5 and 6 level. We believe promoting sport enhances the social, emotional, spiritual, and physical development of each student and that physical activity complements their academic success.
Our Sporting Calendar is directed by the peak body, School Sports Victoria (SSV). SSV provide an ongoing interschool sport program for over 2,300 schools, all Victorian primary schools both government and non-government. SSV actively promotes sport for all Victorian school students as a means of supporting school’s programs in developing their students’ health and wellbeing.

Through maintaining a close affiliation with community sporting groups we are able to access expert coaches from a variety of sports played within our local area. These include cricket, volleyball, rugby and athletics. When appropriate these coaches attend our weekly Physical Education lessons to teach our students both the rules and skills necessary for these sports.
Students have the opportunity to be selected to represent Sacred Heart at a District level. If successful, teams move on to play other Sunraysia schools at the Division level. Winning teams then move on to the Loddon Mallee Regional level, followed by State level if successful.
Sacred Heart has had many successes with teams from a variety of sports competing in Swan Hill against schools from Echuca, Bendigo, Kyneton, Woodend, Swan Hill and others in the Loddon Mallee region.
We have enjoyed celebrating our student’s success at this regional level in both team and individual sports as well as the fantastic achievement of numerous students representing our school community at a State level in Melbourne.
In addition to the sporting teams that participate at an interschool level, there are many opportunities for all students to be involved and compete in community sport days against students compatible with their age and ability from other local schools.
