As part of the wider Mildura community, many local organisations and businesses have formed strong ties with our school and support the school’s regular community and fund-raising activities and events. In return, we encourage our students and their families to engage with our local community.
We value active engagement with a number of local community and Parish groups to enhance student learning and to allow us to give to the community in which we live. Our students have given their time, talents and resources in a variety of ways including: volunteering at the Sacred Heart Parish Soup Kitchen, donating goods for St Vincent Paul, visits to the residents at local Aged Care facilities and a strong connection with local author Phil Kettle.
Project Compassion is Caritas Australia’s annual Lenten fundraising and awareness-raising appeal. Millions of Australians come together in solidarity with the world’s poor to help end poverty, promote justice and uphold dignity.
Sacred Heart Parish Soup Kitchen is open on Monday and Wednesday nights from 5-7pm at the Sacred Heart Church. It is run by volunteers from different organisations within the Sacred Heart Parish. Staff and students along with their families from Sacred Heart Primary School volunteer monthly, cooking and serving to people in need living in our community.
Poor Man’s Mass is celebrated on the Feast of the Sacred Heart each year. Students bring donations of gold coins, blankets and warm clothing. A representatives from the Society of St. Vincent de Paul attend the Mass and accept the donations; these are then be distributed among those in need within our local community.
